The key component of future electronics – MLCC
An Overview of Tantalum Capacitors Technology
主講人: Dr. Masayuki Fujimoto、Dr. Philip Lessner
現職: YAGEO CTO、KEMET CTO
內容摘要:
Multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs) prevail the market, because of their properties of high capacitance with small size, high reliability, high-temperature operation and Excellent high-frequency characteristics. However, so-called size effect of BaTiO3 grain interferes further high capacitance. In these days giant dielectric materials are often referred to application of MLCC for the technological breakthrough. First, advanced characterization technique for MLCC materials is demonstrated and then discuss “Percolative Composite” as one of the candidates of giant dielectric material.
Tantalum Capacitors: Technology, Applications, and Future Directions Tantalum capacitors are used where high capacitance and high reliability are needed in space constrained applications. Applications include power conversion in notebook computers and tablets, chargers, servers, network devices, automotive, and defense and aerospace. An important emerging application is power backup in enterprise solid state drives. KEMET has manufactured tantalum capacitors since 1958. A paradigm shift occurred in Tantalum capacitors in the mid-1990’s with the commercialization of the Tantalum-Conductive Polymer capacitor which led to devices with lower Equivalent Series Resistance (ESR), a more benign failure mode, and capability of higher reliability at higher voltages. This presentation gives a brief overview of the manufacturing steps for Tantalum powder and Tantalum-Polymer capacitors. There is a continued drive to miniaturization, lower parasitic losses, and increased performance in harsh environments. There objected come with technical challenges. I’ll discuss these technical challenges and close with suggestions for potential research topics to address these challenges.
