Functional Films for the Next Generation Display Technology

Despite their excellent stability, light crystal displays (LCDs) face severe challenge from organic light emitting diode (OLED) displays in many aspects including contrast, viewing-angle, color performance, and energy consumption in recent years. Therefore, it is of great importance to continually improve the above characteristics for the development of next generation LCDs. Of many strategies, the design of functional films provides a cost-effective way to efficiently improve the viewing performance of LCDs without redesigning the array & cell of the panel. Therefore, we systematically evaluate the improvement of light diffusing films on the viewing angle of the LCD. In addition, quantum dot (QD) films with different QD materials on back light unit of the LCD have also been introduced and compared. These strategies can not only provide solution to the current LCD technology but also offer great potential for the further development of next generation displays such as MicroLED or QD-OLED displays.
