Innovation of high-entropy materials and the importance of ab initio training

內容摘要:
I started the exploration of high-entropy alloys (HEAs) in 1995 and has published the related papers since 2004. This effort has activated the new emerging field of high-entropy materials (HEMs) as reflected by the exponential growth of yearly number of HEM papers. Traditional alloys almost comprise a major metal element but HEAs comprise multi-principal elements. HEA concept is a revolution in composition design and has generated new compositions, new phenomena, new functions, and new applications. Based on my experience to create the unknown HEM field from the zero-point base in 1995, I would like to share my interior journey with audience. I especially emphasize the importance of ab-initio training from childhood, which is helpful in facing challenges and winning the success.
