演講摘要:
The development of lithium-ion batteries capable of extreme fast charging (XFC) is crucial for the widespread adoption of electric vehicles. However, a significant obstacle to achieving XFC is the undesirable deposition of metallic lithium on the graphite anode, causing capacity degradation and posing a serious safety risk.
Efforts to mitigate lithium plating are essential, but characterizing this phenomenon is challenging due to lithium's sensitivity to oxygen and water, small feature sizes, and the complex morphology of porous electrodes and deposits (such as dendrites with a solid-electrolyte interphase, SEI). Consequently, fundamental questions regarding the mechanism of lithium plating and its impact on graphite remain unanswered.
This presentation will initially delve into operando studies of lithium plating, utilizing single-particle graphite nanoplatelets with well-defined geometry as a model system to investigate SEI growth and lithium plating. The insight contributes to the design of a single-component artificial SEI, enhancing the cycling performance of lithium-ion batteries at high rates. Finally, the application of oxides in lithium-ion batteries will be briefly discussed. By combining polymers with ceramic oxides and designing material structures, there is an opportunity to achieve solid electrolytes with high ionic conductivity, thereby realizing safer lithium-ion batteries.
